A realistic Year 10 plan has three priorities: keep current lessons and homework understandable, revisit taught content before it disappears, and repair one evidenced gap at a time. It does not require a final-exam timetable before the course is substantially taught.
Run a six-week cycle

Repeat the cycle through the year. School calendars vary, so align the review with your actual half-term or assessment point rather than forcing identical dates.
Build a minimum viable week
Start with assigned work and preparation for current lessons. Add a small number of review outcomes:
- one retrieval task for a recently taught topic;
- one application task using a fresh question;
- one repair task chosen from marked work;
- one weekly planning/review block.
Subjects do not need equal time every week. Give protected space to near deadlines, fragile foundations and topics with strong evidence of a gap. Use the balanced study week planner to fit these outcomes after real commitments.
Keep a course map
For each subject, record:

Use the current specification from your awarding organisation as the map, but follow your school's teaching order. AQA's advice to gather specification and past-paper resources is useful, yet AQA resources are not interchangeable with another board.
Do not turn topic colour into false precision
Red/amber/green can start a conversation, but colour alone does not show the cause. Attach evidence:
- the exact question or task;
- what you produced unaided;
- how it was checked;
- what kind of help was needed;
- the next fresh attempt.
For maths, an error may be knowledge, method, reading or accuracy. For English, it may be selection, argument, explanation or control. The repair must match.
Prepare for assessments without abandoning current learning
Before a topic test or internal exam:
- confirm the covered content with the school;
- retrieve key knowledge;
- practise the actual response type;
- check with the correct criteria or mark scheme;
- leave time to repair, not merely complete more questions.
Afterwards, keep the paper and feedback. It becomes the baseline for the next cycle and eventually for the stage-by-stage GCSE roadmap.
Six-week review
Ask:
- Which knowledge can I retrieve after a gap?
- Which task can I complete more independently?
- Which error repeated in more than one piece of work?
- What needs a teacher's explanation?
- Is any subject list too large to be useful?
Carry forward at most three protected outcomes. If you are entering Year 11, transfer the evidence into the Year 11 study plan rather than starting again from a blank timetable.
See what a realistic half-term looks like
Year 10 is a good time to build a repeatable evidence loop while most teaching is still current. It is not necessary to convert every evening into final-exam preparation.
Suppose a learner has:
- current algebra teaching;
- a chemistry end-of-unit test in four weeks;
- feedback that English explanations do not develop evidence;
- ordinary homework and one weekly club.
A six-week cycle might be:

Homework and current lessons still sit around these protected jobs. The cycle selects a few areas for deliberate review; it does not list every subject every day.
Use three Year 10 checkpoints
At each half-term or school review point, ask:
- Course coverage: do I know which specification or course content is being taught?
- Learning evidence: can I retrieve and apply recent material after a gap?
- System: are tasks, feedback and useful errors captured somewhere I revisit?
Add a fourth question if support is involved: what can I now do with less help?
Avoid the two Year 10 extremes
